My Passion for Mah-Jongg

I learned to play Mah-Jongg in the summer of 2007. Saturdays were spent by the pool with family and friends, where my grandmother — lovingly called Nunny — taught me, my cousins, my mom, and my aunts. She had played for more than 50 years. It started as her thing, but it became ours.

In 2024, at 97, Nunny moved into long-term care. While cleaning out her apartment, I realized that in leaving her home, she was also leaving her Mah-Jongg group. So we created a new one. Once a month, we gathered in her building’s dining room — my mom, aunts, cousin, Nunny, and me — playing for hours, snacking, laughing, and celebrating every win (in matching “It’s a beautiful day for Mah-Jongg” t-shirts, of course).

Nunny passed away on January 27, and we miss her deeply. But her legacy lives on — especially through our growing love of Mah-Jongg.

The game is having a moment. If you’re one of the many people in this area who wants to learn, I would love to teach you.

I bring the tiles, the energy, and a beginner-friendly lesson right to your table. Whether you’ve never played or just need a refresher, I’ll guide you from “What is this tile?” to confidently playing full games — all in one relaxed, laughter-filled session.

How It Works

You host. I teach. Everyone plays.

  • Guided play through 2–3 games

  • Support, coaching, and plenty of encouragement along the way

No experience necessary.
